Motorcycle Rider Killed in Head-on Crash Highway 162 in Fruto, Glenn County

GLENN COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2026) — A 67-year-old Chico man was killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck on Highway 162 in the Fruto area of Glenn County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his 2005 BMW motorcycle during the Oct. 3rd crash and suffered fatal injuries. Law enforcement pronounced him dead at the scene. His name has not been released while authorities notify his next of kin.

Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver, 26-year-old Cameron Vessels of Stonyford, was arrested after CHP investigators determined he was allegedly driving under the influence when the collision occurred. Authorities said the suspected impairment contributed to the motorcyclist’s death.

Vessels was taken to Glenn County Jail and booked on a murder charge. He also sustained minor injuries in the crash, including bruising and facial lacerations, according to the CHP.

The collision happened Saturday morning on Highway 162 east of County Road 304. Investigators said Vessels was driving a 1984 Dodge pickup eastbound at an undetermined speed, while the motorcycle was traveling westbound.

According to investigators, the Dodge crossed the highway’s center line and entered the westbound lane as it approached the motorcycle. The vehicles then collided head-on.

The CHP said the investigation remains ongoing. Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash have not been released.
