Motorcyclist Thrown Into HOV Lane After Crash With Tesla
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (June 19, 2026) — A motorcyclist was thrown from a motorcycle and landed in the HOV lane following a collision with a Tesla on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported on June 19th at approximately 1:30 p.m. on southbound I-5 near Scales Road, just south of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in northern San Diego County.
According to CHP dispatch logs, the collision involved a motorcycle and a gray Tesla. The impact reportedly caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle and thrown into the freeway’s carpool lane.
Emergency responders were dispatched after reports that the motorcycle rider had been flipped off the bike and landed in the HOV lane. CHP logs indicated the motorcycle came to rest in the No. 1 lane while the Tesla stopped in the center divider.
Camp Pendleton Fire Department personnel were notified and responded to assist at the scene. Additional vehicles were reported in the center divider following the collision.
A silver Tesla Model S was identified among the vehicles involved. Tow services were requested to remove the damaged vehicles from the freeway and clear the scene.
The condition of the motorcyclist was not immediately released, and authorities have not disclosed whether any other injuries were reported.
Traffic through the area experienced delays as emergency crews worked to assist the injured rider, investigate the crash, and remove debris from the roadway.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
