Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on I-80 Freeway in Contra Costa County

Deadly Motorcycle Crash Amid 11-Vehicle Pileup on Interstate 80 Near Hercules
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2026) — A motorcyclist died Saturday night in an 11-vehicle crash on the Interstate 80 Freeway near Hercules in Contra Costa County.
The deadly, chain-reaction collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported that a Honda SUV and the motorcyclist collided, and the biker was thrown into traffic lanes where he was run over by an oncoming vehicle. This initial collision led to nine more vehicles colliding in the westbound lanes of the I-80.
Paramedics responded and confirmed the motorcycle rider’s death at the scene. The victim has not been identified, but was a man in his 20s from Yuba City in Sutter County.
Two other motorists involved in the collision were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
