Latest Deadly Chula Vista Crash Victim
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (May 20, 2024) — An incredibly, tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of Mark Darulis, 68, of La Mesa, on Saturday night on the 805 Freeway in Chula Vista.
The deadly collision occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th, just south of East J Street, according to a press release by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sadly, it was one of two deadly traffic accidents in the past week in the city.
On Saturday, Mark Darulis was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle in the northbound lanes when he crashed into a disabled Toyota Corolla stopped in the northbound No. 1 lane of the Interstate 805 Freeway, near East J Street in Chula Vista.
Meanwhile, last Monday, May 13th, Michael Anthony Negrette, of Imperial Beach, died in a solo crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway in Chula Vista.
Just last month, two others including a 16-year-old boy died in a fiery, head-on crash on the I-5 Freeway and Palomar Street in Chula Vista. Overall, there were 984 injury and fatality crashes in San Diego County in 2021, the latest statistics available.
The investigations into these fatality collisions are ongoing.
