Michael Wood Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash Near Knights Ferry and Jamestown
TUOLUMNE/STANISLAUS COUNTY (December 15, 2017) – A motorcyclist who was seriously injured after an alleged hit-and-run crash Thursday on Highway 108 has died, according to The Modesto Bee.
The accident took place at about 5:30 p.m., just east of O’Byrnes Ferry Road. It occurred between Knights Ferry and Jamestown.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 55-year-old Michael Wood was riding a motorcycle west on Highway 108 when a pickup made a U-turn in front of him. Highway 108 is also known as Highway 120.
The Modesto man failed to stop in time and collided with the driver’s side of the truck. The motorist in the pickup reportedly completed the U-turn onto the south shoulder then fled the scene.
CHP affirmed that Wood was transported to an area hospital with injuries considered as major. He died on December 30.
Meanwhile, authorities described the suspect as a Latino in his 30s or 40s and the vehicle as American made and faded white with a single cab and a black metal lumber rack with chains on it. The car has a green rectangular company logo on the driver’s side door with block lettering.
Its driver’s side sustained damage from about the door to the rear wheel. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sonora Area CHP at 209-984-3944.
