Suspect Hits Patrol Car, Officer Injured in Collision at California and Chiquita
Mountain View, CA (April 2, 2022) – An officer suffered injuries following a suspected DUI car crash that occurred in the area of California Street and Chiquita Avenue.
According to KRON4 News, the officer was on patrol near the intersection Friday evening. The officer witnessed a motorist who failed to yield at a stop sign at the crossing of California and Chiquita. Primary reports indicated the suspect continued driving and eventually struck a Mountain View police patrol car.
The crash took place around 11 p.m.
When emergency crews arrived at the site, they immediately rendered aid to the officer. Due to the condition of the deputy, paramedics decided to transfer the patient to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
Authorities mentioned a K9 police dog was also in the patrol car when the accident happened. The article published online mentioned medical personnel also evaluated the dog, later confirmed to be in normal condition.
DUI Suspect Cited After Injured Car Crash in Mountain View
Investigators said the driver who failed to yield at a stop sign was an 18-year-old. Officers performed tests on the suspect, and later determined to be intoxicated at the time of the collision. For this reason, authorities cited the teenager for driving while under the influence.
Further investigation is ongoing on the traffic crash at California Street and Chiquita Avenue.
