MOUNTAIN VIEW: Multi-Vehicle Crash Highway 101, Moffett Boulevard

MOUNTAIN VIEW: Multi-Vehicle Crash Highway 101, Moffett Boulevard

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (April 16, 2026) — A chaotic late-morning crash involving multiple vehicles snarled traffic on northbound U.S. 101 in Mountain View, with as many as seven vehicles tied to two separate collisions under the Moffett Boulevard overpass.

The incident began unfolding shortly after 11 a.m. on April 16th when a four-vehicle crash was reported in the No. 1 lane of northbound Highway 101, just before the Moffett Boulevard off-ramp. Early reports indicated several vehicles — including a white Chevrolet sedan, a white Toyota Corolla, a black SUV, and another white SUV — were blocking multiple lanes.

Within minutes, additional collisions were reported in the same area, with the California Highway Patrol later confirming there were two separate crashes involving four vehicles in one and three in another.

At one point, lanes 1 through 3 were blocked, and fire crews temporarily shut down one to two lanes as they responded. A white Tesla with front-end damage was also reported just north of Moffett Boulevard, contributing to congestion across the five-lane freeway stretch.

By around 11:30 a.m., authorities began moving vehicles to the right shoulder, easing the backup. Tow services were requested to clear damaged vehicles, including at least one that was not drivable.

Despite the number of collisions and heavy lane blockages, authorities ultimately classified the incident as involving only minor injuries. The status was updated shortly after 12:20 p.m.

Traffic delays persisted in the area as crews worked to fully clear the scene. The cause of the crashes remains under investigation.
