Three-Vehicle Collision Causes Delays on I-5 South

CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 9, 2025) — A three-vehicle car accident early Monday morning on the I-5 Freeway in Carlsbad caused traffic delays and resulted in at least one person being transported to the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The incident occurred at approximately 5:23 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near Cannon Road. The crash involved a pickup truck, a white Honda CR-V, and an unidentified black sedan. Witnesses reported that the white SUV had been swerving prior to the collision, which ended up blocking the right lane of the freeway.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. Carlsbad Fire Department transported one driver to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with minor injuries. No other serious injuries were reported.

CHP logs indicated that the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes were temporarily closed due to the crash and the major front-end damage sustained by at least one of the vehicles. Tow trucks from Road One and Tonka Tow were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.

By 6:29 a.m., CHP reported that all lanes had been cleared and traffic was flowing normally again. Caltrans crews were also dispatched to repair a damaged K-rail in the construction zone where the crash occurred.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
