Multi-Vehicle Crash Blocks Transition From Southbound 405 to 710 in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A multi-vehicle crash blocked the transition from the southbound Interstate 405 Freeway to the southbound Interstate 710 Freeway Saturday evening, causing traffic delays in the Long Beach area.

The collision was reported on Aug. 29th around 5:42 p.m. near the southbound 405 transition to the 710 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicated three vehicles were involved, including a silver Toyota Camry and a black Toyota Land Cruiser. A later update reported as many as four to five vehicles may have been involved.

At least one vehicle sustained major damage, and all of the vehicles involved were reported to be on the right side of the roadway. One vehicle was also reported facing the wrong way. The crash blocked lanes and the transition road, creating a significant traffic obstruction.

Smoke was reported coming from the crash area, prompting a response from the Long Beach Fire Department. CHP requested two tow trucks, with H and L Towing initially given an estimated 20-minute arrival time.

The CHP incident log did not indicate whether anyone was injured. The incident was classified as a traffic collision requiring an ambulance response.

Drivers were advised to expect delays in the area while emergency crews investigated the collision and worked to clear the damaged vehicles.
