Highway 101 Crash Near Sheffield Road in Montecito
MONTECITO, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2021) — A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 happened Monday near Sheffield Road in Montecito.
The collision took place just after noon on the northbound side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported three motorists collided due to unknown circumstances. One of them overturned onto its roof.
The driver of the white car that overturned suffered serious injuries i the crash. Firefighters extricated the motorist after they became trapped in the upside down vehicle. Paramedics transported the person by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Meanwhile, two people in a second vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Police closed down Highway 101 between Sheffield Drive and San Ysidro Road due to traffic congestion on both sides of the freeway. The highway reopened at 1:30 p.m.
Furthermore, liability for the collision remains under investigation.
