Multi-Vehicle Crash Riverside 91 Freeway at Tyler Street in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (July 17, 2026) — A multi-vehicle crash snarled the morning commute Friday on eastbound Riverside 91 Freeway east of Tyler Street in Riverside.
The collision, which blocked multiple lanes, occurred around 7:43 a.m. on July 17th and prompted a response from the California Highway Patrol, firefighters, and several tow trucks.
Initial CHP dispatches indicated at least three vehicles were involved, but subsequent reports suggested the collision ultimately involved five to six vehicles. Vehicles reported in the crash included a blue Jeep, a black Range Rover, a gray Honda sedan, a red sedan, a black Cadillac SUV, a blue minivan, a gray Mercedes SUV, and several other vehicles that were not immediately identified.
According to CHP logs, the collision blocked the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane and the No. 1 lane, creating significant congestion during the morning rush hour. One gray SUV reportedly came to rest facing the wrong direction in the center divider.
One of the vehicles involved was reported to be disabled and unable to be driven from the scene. Another vehicle reportedly overturned during the crash before coming to rest upright on its wheels.
As the incident unfolded, CHP upgraded the call from a crash with unknown injuries to a collision requiring an ambulance response. Firefighters from the Riverside Fire Department responded to the freeway, and additional emergency medical resources were requested.
A family member also contacted CHP after receiving an automated notification indicating that a relative identified as Ronnie had been involved in the collision, requesting confirmation of the individual’s condition.
Due to the number of damaged vehicles, CHP requested multiple tow companies to respond to the scene. Freeway Service Patrol personnel also assisted with traffic management before clearing the incident shortly before 8:30 a.m.
The extent of any injuries has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Motorists traveling through the area experienced delays while emergency crews worked to clear the damaged vehicles and reopen the affected lanes.
