Chain-Reaction Pileup Crash on US 101

CALABASAS, Calif. (June 2, 2025) — A crash in Calabasas involving at least five vehicles snarled traffic on northbound U.S. 101 just south of Las Virgenes Road Monday morning, prompting a SigAlert and temporary lane closures.

Detached Truck Trailer Sets Off Collision

The incident occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. on June 2nd, when a trailer detached from a truck, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving multiple cars, including a white Tesla Model Y SUV, a Tesla, a blue Honda SUV, an Audi Q8, a Volkswagen, a Dodge Ram pickup truck, and a semi-truck. The crash blocked all northbound lanes for a time, with some lanes reopening by 8:21 a.m.

Child Injured in 5-Vehicle Collision on 101 Freeway

Emergency crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded quickly, with firefighters reporting to the scene by 8:09 a.m. A child was reported injured and was treated by medical crews. The full extent of injuries remains unclear, but at least one vehicle – a blue Honda SUV – sustained major front-end damage.

Caltrans was called in to assess damage after one of the vehicles struck a metal expansion plate on the road, which remained in need of repair. Several tow companies were dispatched to clear the wreckage.

Traffic was heavily impacted throughout the morning, with a SigAlert issued for the #1 and #2 lanes. All lanes were eventually reopened by mid-morning, according to CHP updates.

The cause of the trailer detachment remains under investigation.
