Truck Driver Crashes into Cars on State Route 99

CHICO, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2023) – A dump truck crashed into three vehicles Monday morning on the northbound Highway 99 near Garner Lane in Chico.

The four-vehicle collision occurred at around 7:32 a.m. on Oct. 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a dump truck driver crashed into the back of a Toyota Prius, a Honda CRV, a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV due to unknown circumstances. The Toyota, Honda and Chevy SUV were all stopped and waiting at a red traffic light when the dump truck crashed into them, Action News Now reports.

Authorities were told the dump truck driver possibly fell asleep behind the wheel.

Paramedics responded and rushed both the drivers of the Honda and the Chevy Tahoe to a hospital with minor injuries, the CHP said. Meanwhile, a passenger from the Tahoe was also hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
