WHITTIER, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2021) – A fiery, multi-vehicle Whittier crash happened early Monday on the Interstate 605 Freeway near Washington Boulevard.

The collision occurred about 5:19 a.m. on Dec. 20th between four vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One of the vehicles was traveling southbound on the I-605 when for unknown reasons it crossed over into the northbound side and collided with three other motorists. The vehicles involved include a white Tesla SUV, a red GMC Sierra pickup truck, a black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV and a blue Toyota Murai. Two of the vehicles caught on fire during the collision, police said.

The GMC Sierra suffered major damage on its left side from the Whittier crash on the 605 Freeway.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene to help the injured including one person with lacerations to their face from broken glass.

Police issued a SigAlert due to multiple blocked lanes on the freeway. Police closed down the HOV and Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of the freeway on the northbound side.

Also, a 10-foot section of the center divider needs to be repaired.
