Redding Man Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 273 Identified
REDDING, Calif. (June 19, 2020) – Murray Ronald Roseberry, 61, of Redding, died Wednesday in a pedestrian accident involving a suspected DUI driver near Breslauer Way in Redding.
The victim was identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office. Police have arrested Steward Helmer on felony DUI and manslaughter charges.
The crash took place about 10:50 p.m. on Highway 273 near Breslauer Way on Wednesday, June 17, according to the California Highway Patrol and Action News Now.
Helmer was reportedly driving an SUV and pulling a boat behind the vehicle. The victim was struck by the vehicle and or trailer and critically injured. The driver stopped and called 911 to report the crash, but when police arrived they noticed signs of intoxication. Helmer was booked into Shasta County Jail.
Meanwhile, Roseberry suffered major injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he later died.
