Oakland Woman, 40, Killed; Two Injured in Santa Clara Accident
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2022) — My Kin Phan, 40, of Oakland, died in a solo-vehicle Santa Clara collision at the Lawrence Expressway and Poinciana Drive.
The crash occurred about 1:54 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10th, according to East Bay Times.
Also, two others in the same vehicle, including the 36-year-old driver and a 35-year-passenger, suffered major injuries in the crash.
Police investigating the circumstances reported the vehicle occupied by three people was heading southbound on Lawrence Expressway. For unknown reasons, it drifted to the right and crashed into a traffic signal pole on a median at the intersection.
My Kin Phan was one of the two passengers in the car. She, suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Emergency medical crews and police responded to the scene to help the injured from the crash.
Paramedics transported both the driver and the second passenger to a local hospital for treatment of major injuries, police said.
Investigators suspect DUI is a factor in the crash. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is expected to file charges of driving under the influence with injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, the East Bay Times reported.
