Nabor Ortizlopez, 28, Injured in Crash on Highway 166 Near Bonita School Road
SANTA MARIA (June 5, 2020) – A fatal traffic collision along Highway 166 near Bonita School Road injured a driver on Friday evening.
The California Highway Patrol identified the wounded victim as 28-year-old Nabor Ortizlopez, a resident of Santa Maria.
The incident began when 20-year-old Miguel Preciadonava was allegedly speeding east on Highway 166. He was passing vehicles on the right dirt shoulder at the time.
CHP said Preciadonava, of Santa Maria, then lost control of his 2004 Nissan 350Z. The car spun across the highway and collided head-on with a 2017 Nissan Altima.
According to the report written by Noozhawk, the Altima overturned onto its roof upon impact. It came to a stop just off the westbound shoulder of West Black Road.
2 Killed, 3 Others Hurt in Highway 166 Head-On Crash
The Nissan 350Z continued eastbound in the oncoming lane. It subsequently struck the 2007 Chevrolet Cabalt compact car operated by Ortizlopez.
The incident took place at about 6:05 p.m. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials responded and extricated the occupants from the two Nissan vehicles.
Paramedics at the crash site treated Ortizlopez and an adult female passenger of the Altima for minor wounds. Meanwhile, Preciadonava and the driver of the Altima died at the scene.
The two children riding the Altima was flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with critical injuries. Officers closed Highway 166 for several hours following the collision.
The area where the wreck occurred is halfway between Santa Maria and Guadalupe. The tragic accident remains under investigation.
