5 Injured in Napa Crash on Highway 29 Near Imola Avenue Interchange
NAPA, CA (July 24, 2022) – A DUI crash on Highway 29 near Imola Avenue left several people injured in south Napa.
According to an article published by The Napa Valley Register, the accident took place on Saturday night. Officers reported on July 23 the wreck at about 10:10 p.m.
The incident began when a 1988 Cadillac was going south in the northbound lanes of Highway 29 near the Imola Avenue (Highway 121) interchange in Napa.
At the same time, a 2003 Toyota was traveling north in the left lane and a 2021 Tesla in the right. The Cadillac approached them and clipped the Toyota.
In the process, the Cadillac spun clockwise into the path of the Tesla. The California Highway Patrol said the Tesla then collided with the Cadillac.
Drunk Driver Causes Chain-Reaction
The 56-year-old Napa man driving the Toyota sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. A female passenger in the Cadillac ended up with life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics rushed both patients to the Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment. The three people riding the Tesla survived the accident with minor injuries.
Medical personnel provided them aid at the site. The names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, a helicopter flew the speeding driver to a hospital with moderate injuries. CHP determined that she was under the influence of alcohol when she hit the victims.
They soon arrested the woman on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury. Officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 29 to shut down for hours near Imola following the wreck.
The Napa crash is still under investigation.
