Floria Hakami, Navid Hakami Among 5 Dead in Plane Crash in Santa Ana Parking Lot
SANTA ANA, Calif. (August 6, 2018) – The five victims who died Sunday afternoon in a small plane crash have been identified as 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan, a Bay Area Realtor; Scott Shepherd, 53; Lara Shepherd, 42; and Floria Hakami, 62, who all live in the Bay Area as well as Navid Hakami, 32, of Los Angeles, according to the Orange County Sheriff Coroner.
The crash took place about 12:30 p.m. on August 5th when a twin-engine Cessna 414 aircraft suddenly fell from the sky and crashed into a parking lot in front of a Staples Superstore near South Coast Plaza. The small aircraft clipped an unoccupied vehicle on the ground at the shopping center located at 3800 block of South Bristol Street near Sunflower Avenue.
The collision, roughly a mile from John Wayne Orange County Airport, is now under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board whose team arrived at the crash scene about 11 p.m. Sunday night. All five people were aboard the aircraft and no one on the ground was involved.
So far what we know based on FAA records is the 1973 Cessna was registered to San Francisco-based Category III
Aviation Corp. The pilot had initiated the flight from Concord, a Bay Area suburb.
