Multi-Vehicle Crash on 805 Freeway; Hit-and-run Driver Involved
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2018) – A major chain-reaction collision was reported early Friday morning on the southbound Interstate 805 Freeway, just north of state Route 54, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 2:30 a.m. crash involved a semi-tractor trailer truck and at least three other vehicles including a red SUV and a Cadillac. The initial collision was allegedly caused by a hit-and-run motorist. The driver fled, leaving behind a damaged vehicle disabled in the middle of the southbound freeway.
The driver identified as Juan Robles called 911 and operators told him to run to the shoulder when it was safe to do so. The driver and his dog made it to the shoulder safely, but a red SUV slammed into the back of his vehicle. A Cadillac then crashed into the red SUV.
Finally, a semi-tractor trailer truck crashed into several other vehicles that were stopped near the CHP.
There were no immediate injuries reported as a result of this collision, however, often soft-tissue injuries are felt the day following the collision.
National City Accident Investigation
An investigation into this collision is underway to determine fault. At this time, it appears there could be multiple parties responsible for the crash. Police will piece together the facts and come to a conclusion about liability.
If a negligent driver caused a collision that left you with injuries or the loss of a loved one, you may have grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
It’s important to note, however, that it’s quite common for insurance companies to try and avoid paying out a claim even when they know their insured is responsible. They may also make an offer to settle for far less than the full amount owed. This is unacceptable.
