Driver Killed in Traffic Collision on Interstate 5 Friday
National City, CA (June 18, 2021) – One person died following a car crash that occurred Friday evening on Interstate 5, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Officials said a passenger vehicle slammed into the back of a stopped tow truck. The collision happened in the southbound side of the freeway approaching Main and Division streets.
Shortly after 8:10 p.m., emergency crews arrived at the accident scene. First responders found the black Honda Accord wedged and stuck underneath the tow truck.

Rescue teams extricated the Honda driver, and performed CPR to the man. Sadly, the motorist succumbed to his injuries and died. Authorities continue to withhold the name of the deceased pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the truck operator appeared unharmed after the incident.
Detectives continue to investigate at this time the precise cause of the fatal car and truck crash in National City.
