Nelson Rodriguez, 58, ID’d as Suspect in Chatsworth Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 5, 2022) – Authorities detained Nelson Rodriguez after a hit-and-run crash that killed two bicyclists in Chatsworth.
Police identified the 58-year-old Chatsworth man as the suspect in the fatal accident which took place on Tuesday.
The incident began when Nelson Rodriguez was driving a red Toyota Tacoma west on Plummer Street in Chatsworth. Two bicycle riders were traveling in the same direction at the time.
For an unknown reason, he struck the bicyclists near the intersection with Lurline Avenue. Los Angeles police said both victims ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the collision.
2 Bicyclists Hit and Killed by Car
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the two cyclists, including 58-year-old Canoga Park resident Matthew Zink, dead at the scene.
The Daily News and FOX 11 News described the other bicyclist as a pregnant woman. The accident took place on January 4 shortly before 7:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Nelson Rodriguez did not stop to help the victims and fled the area. He ended up crashing into a wall near the intersection of Knapp and Desoto.
Officers took the motorist to a hospital for treatment of minor wounds. They soon arrested the hit-and-run driver, Nelson Rodriguez, on suspicion of murder.
