Nelson Zelaya, 37, ID’d as Suspect in Valencia DUI Crash
SANTA CLARITA, CA (February 21, 2023) – Authorities detained Nelson Zelaya after a DUI crash on State Route 126 in Valencia.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 37-year-old Los Angeles man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Sunday.
The incident happened when Nelson Zelaya was driving a Jeep on State Route 126 in the Valencia neighborhood of Santa Clarita. He then hit a Ford pickup truck traveling in the area.
CHP said the two cars crashed just east of Travel Village. The Signal and Hometown Station wrote that the collision took place on February 19 at about 4:24 p.m.
2 Injured in Wreck
The two people riding the Ford ended up hurt as a result of the accident. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and attended to their unspecified injuries.
Medical personnel rushed both victims to a hospital for further aid. The reports did not disclose the names of the wounded patients and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Nelson Zelaya on suspicion of a felony DUI due to the injuries sustained in the crash. They booked him into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Officers forced a stretch of State Route 126 to shut down following the wreck. The cause of the Valencia DUI crash is still under investigation.
