1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Newark Crash on Cherry Street Near Mowry
NEWARK, CA (August 27, 2022) – A car crash killed one person and seriously injured another on Cherry Street in Newark.
According to the East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at around 2:30 a.m.
Newark police said the incident happened when three vehicles collided for an unknown reason in the city. The cars crashed on Cherry Street near Mowry Avenue.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and soon pronounced one driver dead at the scene. Another motorist sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
Multiple Cars Collide
Medical personnel rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment. The other passengers and the operator of the third car ended up hospitalized for evaluation.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, police believed that alcohol and speed played a role in the incident.
Officers forced a stretch of Cherry Street to shut down for a time following the wreck. The fatal Newark crash is still under investigation.
