1 Injured in Newberry Springs Hit-and-Run Crash on Eastbound Interstate 40 Near Rest Area

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (August 11, 2021) – At least one was injured after a hit-and-run crash on the Interstate 40 in Newberry Springs.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the accident took place on Wednesday night. Officers reported the wreck at about 9:18 p.m.

CHP said a white semi-truck slammed into a Honda Civic for an unknown reason in Newberry Springs. The two crashed on the eastbound Interstate 40, just east of Desert Oasis Rest Area.

The sedan plunged down an embankment due to the impact of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.

Car Hit by Semi-Truck

Medical personnel found an occupant of the Honda who ended up hurt as a result of the incident. They then treated the victim for the unspecified injuries they sustained in the accident.

Officials did not disclose the name of the wounded patient and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver of the semi-truck did not stop to help and fled the area.

They added that the semi-truck, with a white trailer, obtained damage to its driver side. Officers forced the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 40 to shut down following the wreck.

The Newberry Springs hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
