Bus Driver, 5 Passengers Hospitalized After Parking Lot Collision
NEWPORT BEACH, California (March 28, 2016) — Five passengers and a bus driver were hospitalized Sunday night after the Orange County Transportation Authority bus crashed into a large planter at the Fashion Island shopping mall, according to a report by the Newport Beach Police Department.
The crash took place about 7 p.m. last night at 700 Newport Center Drive. The OCTA bus entered the parking lot at the outdoor shopping mall and drove up a concrete embankment prior to hitting the planter.
The crash did not involve any other motorists. Paramedics rushed to the scene to help the driver and five passengers who were complaining of pain, but there were no life-threatening injuries sustained. Three of the passengers on the bus were not injured.
The Newport Beach Police Department is heading up an investigation into what led to the crash and will issue a report with their findings.
