Woman Hospitalized After Pedestrian Accident Near School
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2024) — Newport Beach crossing guard Kathy Japes was injured Tuesday morning Feb. 13th in a crash at Vista Del Oro and Vista Roma near Eastbluff Elementary School.
A teenage driver in a Volkswagen SUV reportedly ran through a stop sign and struck the woman at around 8 a.m. at the intersection near Eastbluff Elementary School, according to the Orange County Register.
Newport Beach police responded to the scene and spoke with the driver who was reportedly traveling at between 18 and 20 mph at the time of the crash.
Paramedics transported Kathy Japes to a hospital where she is being treated for multiple injuries including a broken hip, pelvis, shoulder, elbow, a bruised lung and a conscussion, her GoFundMe fundraiser said.
The case remains under investigation.
