Bicycle Rider Killed in Newport Beach Crash on Jamboree Road
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (September 11, 2022) – A hit-and-run crash killed a bicycle rider on Jamboree Road in Newport Beach.
According to The Orange County Register and My News LA, the tragic accident took place on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 8:30 a.m.
Newport Beach police said the incident happened when a vehicle struck a man riding a bicycle for an unknown reason in the city. The driver going south hit him in the 3000 block of Jamboree Road.
Firefighters along with the paramedics then arrived at the scene, south of Fletcher Jones Motorcars. They found the bicyclist down on the ground as a result of the collision.
Driver Hits Man, Flees Scene
He ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel soon pronounced the victim dead.
The name of the deceased rider has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the cyclist and fled the area.
They described the car as a white sedan with a cracked windshield. Officers forced a stretch of Jamboree Road to shut down for a time following the bicycle accident.
