Nichalas Hill, 27, ID’d as Suspect in San Luis Obispo DUI Head-On Crash

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (May 9, 2023) – Authorities detained Nichalas Hill after a suspected DUI crash on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo.

The California Highway Patrol determined that the 27-year-old San Luis Obispo man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred.

The incident began when Nichalas Hill was driving a BMW 335 at a high rate of speed north on South Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. At the same time, a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV was going south.

He then crossed double yellow lines into the southbound lane, just north of Clover Ridge Lane. In the process, the Chevrolet veered to the right to avoid collision.

CHP said the speeding car ultimately struck the Trailblazer head-on. The Tribune wrote that the accident took place on Monday, May 8, at around 9 p.m.

3 Seriously Injured in Wreck

The two occupants of the SUV became pinned inside their car upon impact. Firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued the Rancho Cucamonga couple from the wreckage.

The victims, 61-year-old Kevin Suchoza and 63-year-old Yolanda Suchoza, sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident. A passenger of the BMW also obtained major injuries following the wreck.

Paramedics transported Kevin Suchoza to the French Hospital Medical Center for treatment. Medical personnel rushed Yolanda Suchoza and the other patient to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

Crews provided aid to Nichalas Hill who survived the crash with minor injuries. CHP soon arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Officers booked Nichalas Hill into the San Luis Obispo County Jail after the alleged DUI collision. The San Luis Obispo DUI crash is still under investigation.
