RIVERSIDE, California (October 10, 2016) — Nicholas Bendell, 37, of Lake Elsinore was killed late Friday afternoon when they were struck by a pickup truck on Van Buren Boulevard, about half a mile west of Plummer Avenue, a report by the Riverside County Fire Department and Coroner said.
The fatal crash took place about 5:47 p.m., just west of Plummer Road. There was an emergency response by CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters, but the victim died of their injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
The fatal crash is under investigation by police to determine liability.
Although initial reports indicate Bendell may have been jaywalking, it’s important that there is no rush to judgement. Pedestrians may cross a road outside of a crosswalk if it is safe to do so. Police will determine whether any other circumstances may have been involved. For example, they will investigate whether the motorist was speeding or if any other traffic violations were present.
