Father Faces DUI Charges after Huntington Beach Crash on PCH
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2019) — Nicholas Dean Donahue, 38, faces multiple charges including DUI after a recent head-on collision with another motorist on Pacific Coast Highway at Seapoint Street.
The collision was reported about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday when Donahue was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV and collided head-on with a Hyundai at the intersection. Police say Donahue was arguing with his wife at the time and was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The man’s four young children, who are all under 6 years old, were injured in the collision. The three boys and one girl were all taken to hospital with injuries. Police say they were in the back seat and were not properly restrained when the crash occurred. The other driver in the Hyundai and Donahue’s wife were also hurt.
Donahue was arrested after the collision and plead not guilty on Thursday during his arraignment in a Santa Ana courtroom. He is charged with three felony counts of child abuse and endangerment and one misdemeanor count of child abuse and endangerment as well as misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. Additionally, there are enhancements for causing great bodily injury to his little girl and to a child younger than 5 for the two boys.
Donahue is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 27 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
