Nicholas Merced, 39, Critically Injured in Camp Pendleton Crash
OCEANSIDE, CA (September 23, 2022) – A motorcycle crash left Nicholas Merced critically injured on Camp Pendleton in Oceanside.
A family member identified the 39-year-old man as the victim of the wreck which took place on Monday.
The incident happened when military police officer Nicholas Merced was riding his motorcycle about five miles inside Camp Pendleton. At the same time, a car was trying to make a turn in the area.
For an unknown reason, the driver failed to see the motorcyclist approaching. In the process, the vehicle t-boned the rider.
Motorcycle and Car Collide
The ABC 10 News wrote that the accident occurred in the morning of September 19. Paramedics arrived at the scene and then found the officer down on the ground.
Nicholas Merced sustained an open pelvic fracture, along with fractures in his back, arm, knee and feet, as a result of the crash. A helicopter flew him to the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment.
The report added that he was soon listed in critical condition. His wife set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the medical bills of the victim.
Meanwhile, officers did not mention if the motorist stopped or stayed at the site following the wreck. The cause of the Camp Pendleton crash is still under investigation.
