Sheriff Deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver
CHINO, Calif. – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin, 28, died Sunday morning in a collision with a suspected DUI driver in Chino.
The crash was reported about 12:30 a.m. at Euclid and Edision avenues. O’Loughlin, who was off-duty at the time, was struck by a vehicle driven by Yijie Mao, 26, of Alhambra, according to the Chino Police Department.
Police say O’Loughlin was heading southbound on Euclid Avenue when his vehicle was struck by Mao’s vehicle.
The San Bernardino deputy died of his injuries at the scene, Chino Police said.
Mao is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Police arrested him on DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
