Nicholas Thompson Killed in Long Beach Crash Riding an E-Scooter

Man Struck and Killed by Pickup Truck in Long Beach is Identified

LONG BEACH, Calif. (August 12, 2026) – A driver in a pickup truck struck and killed Nicholas Thompson, 31, of Long Beach, who was riding an electric scooter Monday morning on Walton Street in Long Beach.

The collision occurred around 10 a.m. on Monday, August 10th, in the 5300 block of Walton Street, between Willow Street and Clark Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The driver of a 2024 Toyota Tundra was heading east on Walton Street when the Long Beach man riding the e-scooter tried to turn west onto Walton Street from Stanbridge Avenue.

The driver tried to avoid hitting the man on the e-scooter, but couldn’t and unfortunately struck the man. Police responded and, together with a good Samaritan, provided medical aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. However, despite efforts to save his life, the man died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old man driving the Tundra pickup truck stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

Detectives working on the case do not suspect impaired or distracted driving were factors. Also, the driver’s speed was not considered a factor in the collision.
