Nick Cirello El Cajon Hit-and-Run Accident on West Washington AvenueSuspect Drags Officer Nick Cirello on West Washington Avenue Monday

El Cajon, CA (December 20, 2020) – An El Cajon police officer suffered injuries following a hit-and-run collision on West Washington Avenue Monday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the crash happened on December 14, at about 8:30 a.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed Officer Nick Cirello responded to a report of a Volkswagen SUV partially blocking the 100 block of West Washington Avenue.

When Cirello and other officers arrived at the location, he found the driver and a passenger both sleeping inside the car. Subsequently, the officers woke up the occupants and requested for identification.

Our sources indicated the driver of the Volkswagen provided a false name. At some point during the conversation, the motorist started the vehicle and put it into gear.

According to the news article, Cirello tried to stop the driver from leaving. As a result, the officer ended up partially trapped in the SUV and dragged as the vehicle sped away. Officials said another vehicle traveling in the area struck the officer hanging from the moving SUV. The collision caused the officer to be ejected from the Volkswagen, then thrown onto the roadway.
