Nickolas Bianchi, 27, Killed in Alameda Crash at Cambridge and Fernside
ALAMEDA, CA (September 8, 2021) – Nickolas Bianchi was killed after a DUI crash at Cambridge Drive and Fernside Boulevard in Alameda.
Police identified the 27-year-old Alameda man as one of the victims in the fatal collision which occurred on Monday night.
The incident happened when Nickolas Bianchi was driving a GMC pickup truck west on Fernside Boulevard in Alameda. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was speeding north on Cambridge Drive.
Police said the driver of the Toyota blew a stop sign and then broadsided the GMC at the intersection. The pickup went off the road and plowed into a front porch of an unoccupied home.
Drunk Driver Hits Another Car
Nickolas Bianchi died at the scene of the crash. The East Bay Times and KTVU News wrote that the accident took place on September 6 shortly after 8 p.m.
A male passenger riding the GMC sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Paramedics took the patient to a local hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the motorist in the Corolla survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the other car.
Officers soon arrested the man on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The Alameda DUI crash is still under investigation.
