1 Seriously Injured in Nipomo Head-On Crash Near Thompson and Tefft
NIPOMO, CA (September 23, 2021) – At least one was seriously injured after a DUI wrong-way crash near Thompson Avenue and Tefft Street in Nipomo.
The California Highway Patrol first logged the accident as a head-on collision on Thursday night. According to their dispatch, officers reported the wreck at about 8:34 p.m.
The incident began when a small black pickup truck was traveling the wrong-way at about 100 mph in the Nipomo area. In the process, the speeding driver slammed into two other vehicles.
They crashed near the intersection of South Thompson Avenue and East Tefft Street. The wrong-way motorist did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
Speeding Wrong-Way Driver Hits Cars
One of the cars involved, another pickup, rolled over upon impact while the third vehicle went off the roadway. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.
They found two male parties hurt as a result of the collision. At least one of them sustained major injuries following the accident.
Medical personnel then took the patient to the Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officials did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP believed that alcohol played a role in the incident. Officers forced both lanes of Thompson near Tefft to shut down for more than an hour following the wreck.
The Nipomo wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
