3 Killed, 2 Injured in 15 Freeway Crash Near Halloran Summit Road
NIPTON (September 16, 2019) – Three were killed and two others were seriously injured after a traffic collision along the 15 Freeway Monday.
The accident involving two vehicles took place just before noon, just north of Halloran Summit Road about 20 miles north of Baker.
California Highway Patrol said a Ford Explorer was traveling north on the 15 Freeway when for an unknown reason it veered into the center divide and became airborne.
According to reports by Victor Valley News and The Daily Press, the Explorer then slammed into the windshield of an Isuzu box truck which was headed south in the No. 2 lane.
Car and Box Truck Accident on 15 Freeway Near Baker Monday
The 38-year-old man operating the truck and his passenger, a 54-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Both were from Bakersfield.
CHP affirmed that the 25-year-old woman riding in the Ford also died upon impact. The 31-year-old man driving the Explorer and a 1-year-old child in a car seat suffered major injuries in the wreck.
The two patients were flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
