Driver Arrested After Fatal San Jose Crash
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2018) – Noe Fernandez Ortiz, 18, of Watsonville, died Saturday night in a multi-vehicle collision involving an alleged DUI driver on U.S. Highway 101.
The crash took place about 11 p.m. at Trimble Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Ortiz’s white Honda Civic became disabled and he pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway. Next, a 2018 Ford Mustang driven by Andres Emilio Flores-Avendano, 29,of Santa Clara, reportedly crashed into the Honda. The impact caused Ortiz to be ejected from his vehicle. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Two male passengers in the Honda ages 21 and 28 suffered minor injuries.
Police investigating the collision determined that Flores-Avendano was driving DUI. He was arrested and has been charged with felony driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
San Jose Accident Investigation
Police are reviewing all the evidence and will determine what criminal charges should be filed and who is at fault for the crash.
