Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Normal Heights DUI Crash on Mountain View
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 28, 2022) – A DUI crash seriously injured a bicyclist on North Mountain View Drive in the community of Normal Heights.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place on Sunday afternoon. Officers reported the collision at about 4:45 p.m.
The incident happened on March 27 when a black Honda Civic was going west on North Mountain View Drive in Normal Heights. Police said the car then left the roadway and went up a curb.
The Honda slammed into a utility pole near 34th Street and in the process, struck a 61-year-old man riding a bicycle. The rider ended up knocked to the ground upon impact.
Man, 28, Arrested For DUI
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the cyclist who sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
They rushed him to a hospital for treatment. The reports did not disclose the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police determined that the 28-year-old man driving the Civic was under the influence when he hit the bicyclist. Medical personnel took him for the complaints of pain.
Officers soon arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. Police forced a stretch of Mountain View Drive to shut down following the collision.
