Norman Tanner San Francisco Hit-and-run Pedestrian Accident Oak StreetPolice Seek Help Finding Hit-and-run Driver; Norman Tanner ID’d as Victim

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2018) — Norman Tanner, 60, of San Francisco, died following a hit-and-run collision last week in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

Tanner is a founder of the Black Brothers Esteem program that supports African American gay and bisexual men that is now part of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

The victim was struck by a driver on Oct. 3 around 9:10 p.m. The Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound on Oak Street when witnesses say they ran a red light at Baker Street. Tanner was struck as he crossed the street, police said.

The female driver of the Toyota reportedly stopped and got out of her car briefly, but was seen getting back in and fleeing the scene. She headed east on Oak Street and then was seen turning south on Broderick Street, police said.

Paramedics rushed Tanner to the hospital, but he later died of his injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a black or dark blue Toyota Prius that likely has front-end damage

Witnesses may call them at the Police Department’s 24-hour tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411.

The investigators handling the case continue to follow leads in an effort to find the suspect who did this.

We extend our condolences to the the family and friends of Mr. Tanner.

There are many steps that should be taken following a collision to ensure your legal rights are protected, but this can vary depending on the circumstances.  If someone has died, a wrongful death claim may be pursued by surviving family members against the driver’s insurance company.
