Man Hit and Killed by Vehicle on 5 Freeway Near Basilone Road Tuesday
North County, CA (September 21, 2021) – A deadly pedestrian accident occurred Tuesday evening on the Interstate 5 Freeway near San Onofre State Beach.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a man was walking in the northbound lanes of the freeway at about 11:30 p.m. Our sources indicated an oncoming Toyota Corolla struck the pedestrian in the area just south of Basilone Road.
Officials confirmed several other passing vehicle hit the man lying on the roadway.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident in North County, September 21
When medical personnel arrived at the location, they immediately rendered aid to the victim. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the pedestrian but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died. The identity of the deceased remained undisclosed pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Authorities added a 25-year-old passenger in the Toyota sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck. An ambulance transported the patient to a hospital for treatment.
At this time, investigators continue to work to determine liability in the deadly pedestrian accident in North County.
