Pedestrian, 81, Killed in North Highlands Crash at Walerga Road and Bainbridge Drive
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA (November 27, 2020) – A DUI crash killed an elderly pedestrian at Walerga Road and Bainbridge Drive in North Highlands.
According to an article published by CBS Sacramento, the tragic collision occurred on Friday morning. Officers reported the accident at around 9:18 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident happened when an 81-year-old man was walking his bicycle along the right sidewalk of Bainbridge Drive.
Elderly Man Hit by DUI Driver in North Highlands
A vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk and then struck the victim at the intersection with Walerga Road. He suffered major injuries as a result of the crash.
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the pedestrian to the hospital where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the driver stopped following the accident. CHP determined that the motorist, a 31-year-old Sacramento man, was under the influence of drugs at the time.
Authorities arrested him on suspicion of DUI. The fatal incident is still under investigation.
