Passenger Killed in SUV Rollover Crash on 580 Freeway
OAKLAND, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2020) — A woman about 60 years old is dead, another critically injured Sunday night in a solo-vehicle crash on the Interstate 580 Freeway.
The cash took place about 4:45 p.m. near the 35th Avenue off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A black SUV overturned on the right side in the westbound lanes of the I-580 near the off ramp. Police officers arrived at the scene to find the SUV engulfed in flames and on its side. Passersby pulled over and attempted to get the people out of the vehicle, the CHP said.
The female passenger in the SUV died at the scene, but the other was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Police issued a Sig-alert at 5:22 p.m. due to the closure of the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes for more than two hours, authorities said. Later the freeway reopened about 7:19 p.m.
