Suspect in Cadillac Escalade Hit Bicyclist, Fled Scene
OAKLAND, Calif. (April 8, 2022) — A 38-year-old Oakland man riding a bicycle was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash at East 15th Street and Eighth Avenue in Oakland.
Now police searching for the driver of the white Cadillac Escalade SUV that struck him, according to East Bay Times.
The hit-and-run collision happened about 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 7th at the Oakland intersection.
The Oakland man on the bike was riding eastbound on East 15th Street. He was in a marked bicycle lane and had a green light when he arrived at the intersection with Eighth Avenue. That’s when a white Cadillac Escalade traveling southbound on Eighth Avenue allegedly drove through a red light, police said.
The impact caused the bicyclist to be thrown onto the pavement. He suffered major head and other injuries, police said.
Meanwhile, the SUV driver reversed his vehicle and drove away eastbound on East 15th Street, police said.
Investigators are working on the case and believe that speed was a factor in the collision.
Finally, there is a $5,000 in reward for information leading to the arrest of the SUV driver.
