OAKLAND, California (March 27, 2016) – A major injury collision took place Sunday evening on the westbound Interstate 580 Freeway near Golf Links Road off-ramp, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch. (map)
The crash involving at least two vehicles was reported at 6:42 p.m., just east of 98th Avenue.
As per the dispatch, one of the cars involved swerved and then overturned, coming to a stop on the right hand shoulder near the side hill. The other vehicle ended up blocking the slow lane.
CHP said a person was seen lying in the roadway following the accident. Fire department officials were on scene to attend to and transport at least one party who was confirmed to have been seriously injured in the collision.
It was not clear if any other victim sustained injuries and how many cars were actually involved in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
