OAKLAND (April 12th, 2017)- According to the East Bay Times, a collision initially deemed as a hit-and-run but was then confirmed to have been a pedestrian versus auto collision took place Tuesday evening.
The incident was reported at precisely 8:20 p.m. when the driver of a Nissan Versa, a woman, struck a man walking his dog at the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and Nicol Avenue.
The woman, an Oakland resident, got out of her car to help the man but quickly entered her car again and left the scene after panicking once she saw several people coming to aid the man. After speaking with her parents, the unidentified Oakland woman returned back to the scene.
Per the East Bay Tims, the pedestrian man, a 58-year-old, suffered serious undisclosed injuries but is expected to survive after he was said to have been in stable condition.
The dog sadly did not survive the impact of the hit as it was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities were able to confirm that neither drugs nor alcohol was factors in the collision. It remains unclear if the woman was arrested for leaving the scene or simply just cited for causing the accident.
