OAKLAND, California (March 17, 2017) — A man died while another was seriously injured following a 4-car chain reaction crash when two men exited their vehicle’s and were struck Wednesday morning on the westbound Interstate 580 Freeway at the Harrison Street off ramp, per East Bay Times.
The accident was reported at 4:29 a.m. as two of the vehicles involved were a 2003 Honda and a 1997 Acura.
Both driver of the Honda and Acura removed themselves from their vehicles before being struck by the drivers of two additional cars.
One man identified a Marquez White, 35, of Oakland tragically did not survive the impact of the collision. He was pronounced at the scene.
The other motorist who had not been identified was severely injured and remains hospitalized stationed in the critical care unit at this time.
By 5:39 a.m., the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes reopened to traffic, but the No. 4 lane remained closed while CHP perused the scene and gathered details.
Police will investigate the cause of the crash and liability.
