OAKLAND (September 30, 2018) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a traffic collision on the Interstate 580 Freeway on Sunday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch team.
The accident took place at approximately 1:45 p.m.
CHP received a call about a motorcycle and a gray Toyota Camry which collided for an unknown reason on the eastbound 580 Freeway near the Seminary Avenue on-ramp.
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the rider and the bike down in the No. 2 lane of the freeway as a result of the crash.
The motorcyclist was then transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for major injuries. The name and condition of the patient at this time remained unknown.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Camry apparently stopped after the wreck. A SigAlert was issued, forcing all lanes of the eastbound 580 Freeway, just west of Seminary Avenue, to shut down.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

A forensic examination of both the motorcycle and the Toyota Camry, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine the cause of the crash. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs played a role, whether or not there were any mechanical issues with either the bike or the car, and whether or not one of the drivers involved was distracted or did not yield to the right of way motorist. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the motorcycle or the vehicle such as point of impact, their final resting positions, skid marks, and gouge marks.
A victim of a motorcycle accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit, seeking a compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
