Oakland hit-and-run Bancroft 85th
Man Critically Injured in Oakland Hit-and-Run at Bancroft and 85th Avenues
OAKLAND, CA (October 2, 2021) – A pedestrian was critically injured after a hit-and-run crash at Bancroft and 85th avenues in East Oakland.
According to the East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco, the accident took place on Friday night. Officers reported the collision on October 1 at about 9:56 p.m.
The incident began when an Oakland man was walking across 85th Avenue at Bancroft Avenue. At the same time, a 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling at high speed east on Bancroft in a bicycle lane.
Police said the Toyota spun out of control in the process. The Camry then struck the pedestrian and his dog at the intersection in an unmarked crosswalk.
Pedestrian and Dog Hit by Speeding Driver
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man and his dog left lying on the ground. The person sustained severe head trauma as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital and listed him in critical condition. Officials took the dog to a veterinarian for treatment of a possible broken leg.
The reports did not disclose the name of the victim. Meanwhile, the Toyota ultimately slammed into two parked vehicles after hitting the man.
The male driver and his apparently wounded male passenger abandoned their car and fled on foot. Police forced the area of Bancroft and 85th avenues to shut down for a time following the collision.
